The Grace Award is named both for the first recipient, Grace Hiddleson, and for the virtues of grace exemplified by The Three Graces in western mythology that inspired qualities such as Excellence, Service to another, Charity, Mercy, Love, Gentleness, or Friendship.
Grace received the award in 2004. In 2005 the award was presented to Kay Krieger for her outstanding volunteer efforts, and in 2006 it was presented to Mary Velinsky. The 2007 Grace Award was presented to Petra Dauer.
Beverly Payne of Davis has received Citizens Who Care's 2008 Grace Award. The award was presented to Beverly at the CWC Volunteer and Donor Appreciation Event held at Stonegate Country Club on October 25, 2008. This annual event acknowledges all CWC volunteers who contribute to the well-being of so many elderly people and their families.
Beverly is much appreciated for the many hours of service, dedication, and friendship she provides to older adults and their families served by CWC. As a volunteer for CWC's Convalescent Hospital Visiting program, Beverly and Sadie, her Boston terrier (aka an official CWC "Pet Visitor"), visit the Sierra Health Care Center, greeting and talking to residents. A staff member at Sierra said "They are quite popular here."
Beverly also volunteers in the CWC In-Home Respite program where she visits an older adult at home, offering companionship for a few hours and allowing the caregiver some time off.
In 2008 over 100 volunteers are providing more than 5000 hours of kindness through CWC's programs, and over 100 seniors have a friend to talk to. Volunteers like Beverly make possible this essential service for our community. As Beverly says, volunteering for CWC programs "enriches her life."
On behalf of CWC's clients, volunteers and staff, we honor Beverly for her dedicated and outstanding work to brighten the days of isolated elder patients. Her commitment of heart and energy benefits our clients, their families and caregivers, and the community at large. Thank you, Beverly, for representing what Citizens Who Care is all about!
