California's Natural Resources
We
live in one of the most magnificent places in the world – with spectacular
mountains, fertile valleys, forests, deserts, and a beautiful coastline where
California meets the ocean. We have Mount Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States, right next to the lowest point in Death Valley. The Sierra redwood is the largest tree in the world,
and the coast redwood is the tallest. The coast that forms our western
boarder runs for hundreds of miles with a mixture of sandy beaches and rugged
bluffs, and our valleys support the world’s most productive agriculture. In
short, we are blessed with a wonderful and unique place to call home, and
caring for it takes commitment and insight that my background in natural
resource sciences will provide in the State Legislature.
California's People
We
have also been the fortunate recipients of efforts by extraordinary people
who, in a blink of history’s eye, have created thousands of farms, ranches
and towns, magnificent cities, marvels of transportation, and waterworks that
support over 30 million people. It is now our turn to pass on the freedom,
accomplishments, and opportunities that have been entrusted to our care. This
is, and should be, a humbling task that I will do my best to accomplish.
