Winning
The trends in the 8th District are positive for the election of a Republican candidate in 2004. California now has a Republican Governor, and Republican voter registration in Assembly District 8 is increasing. In the last election, only two other unsuccessful Republican Assembly candidates came as close to winning as I did, and voters are now much more aware of the problems created by Democrat leadership in Sacramento.
Winning, however, will require reaching more voters with my name, my message, and the Democrat record. The 8th Assembly District has more than 190,000 registered voters, and I need to convince over half of those who cast a ballot to vote for me. Conducting a complete campaign that includes volunteer efforts, mass mail, radio, signs, and other means of reaching so many voters will be expensive, and I will need your help to be successful.
The habit of not supporting Republican candidates because they haven’t won in past elections has become a self-fulfilling prophecy in Yolo and Solano Counties, because no Republican candidate is going to succeed in this area without the support needed to reach decline-to-state voters and voters in other political parties. The Republican message of individual responsibility, limited government, and free enterprise is persuasive, especially when it is contrasted with the Democrat controlled Legislature’s record of turning surplus revenues into a massive budget deficit through uncontrolled growth of government programs, reckless spending, and repressive regulations. But getting this message out cannot be done without your help. The alternative is to be a spectator as our freedom, prosperity, and opportunities for the future are drowned in a sea of Democrat red ink.
